TOPOGRAPHY:
Topography is the study and description of the physical features of an area, for example its mountains or rivers, or the representation of these features on maps.
The topography of a particular area is its physical shape, including its hills, valleys and lakes.
Desmet’s topographical studies of specific locations often originate in her very detailed sketchbook studies or in photographic research. In her prints and collages shown here, the definition is used more widely to encompass the architecture and archaeology of the specific locations represented in order to demonstrate the very particular qualities and characteristics of each landscape, town, village or individual building depicted.
